Customer questions & answers
Ans. Fusible foam can and will leave wrinkles that won't ever come out. Hard to iron it smoothly without those wrinkles. Soft and Stable will "stick" to the fabric while using it, making is perfect for quilting on bags or purses. I will tell you this about trying to use Headliner foam. Soft and Stable will wash beautifully, and Headliner foam will fall apart. Headliner foam is for working in an area that would never be exposed to water. If you're making tote bags and purses, you will expect to be able to wash it someday.
Ans. Soft and Stable is GREAT for placemats - provides a very professional look. Because of the thickness, I find it best to cut binding strips at 2.5" (2.25" that I use for single-layer regular batting just doesn't provide enough 'turn' to suit my tastes. Somewhat expensive versus regular batting, but really great stuff.
Ans. I have never used it this way. I use it for bags to keep them stable. It is much thicker than the papers you use with English paper pieces. It is easy to sew through though if you wanted to keep the foam pieces inside your project. It would make them a little puffy.
Ans. I have never done it with soft and stable, but don't see why it cannot. I often sew together two pieces of batting in quilts. I recommend using a wide and narrow zigzag stitch and perhaps that tape( about 1" or 1 1'2" wide) sold to iron together the two pieces like I use in quilting. Can't remember what it is called but one side is soft fabric the iron goes next to and the other the sticky side that holds the pieces together from the heat of the iron. Sure worth a try I would think. Do both the adhesive and zigzag stitch for increased durability.
Ans. It is not a batting designed for insulation. Purchase a product called Insulite for pot holders, etc. Soft and stable is perfect for making bags and purses to stand up and not fall over as is the case with traditional batting. I like soft and stable for making placemats as well, as there is more stability given by the thin layer of foam between thin polyester I think.
